Critical Reading Too Hard.. Tips please?

620 First time, 640 Second time... This will probably be the last time I'll be taking the SATs.. I have a 760 Math and 800 Writing, but I totally suck at Critical Reading. This is pretty much the only reason I'm taking it again. =</p>

I tried multiple methods, but I keep getting around 8-9 wrong and skipping about 5 on practice tests (resulting in scores from 600 to 660). I'm fine with the easy and medium Vocab questions, but the hard ones are just too difficult. As for the long passages, I often narrow it down to two answers, over-think, and choose the wrong answer. I'm pretty good at the short passages and comparison ones since they get straight to the point.

Any tips for me (and others) struggling at this seemingly impossible section?

well if you are choose the wrong answer all the time when you have eliminated three of them...it sounds fishy to me. The odds should be 50-50.

Try to over-over think it so that you realize that you are over thinking and over-over thinking will undo the over thinking causing it to become a normal thinking.

Or...just try to think at an average level. That is what I do...I might not have much credibililty as I only scored a 670CR (retaking tomorrow). But I try to put myself in the shoes of the average high school student.

It isnt impossible. Last week I got my third ever perfect CR section. It was the one with 24 questions. So it boils down to concentration and normal thinking. Dont try to use your scientific brain or anything. Just be normal. For example there was one science passage that I completely disagreed with, and used my own opinions and what do you know...I got 16/24 on that section.

That's what I used to do, over think and then draw conclusions that might have had the tiniest bit of support, even though there was a more general answer that would have worked.

Now, when I'm down to two, I can differentiate between "the college board answer" and "the answer I would pick if I over analyzed." When you do practice sections (doing a few more tonight can help if you try this!), don't only look at the ones you got wrong, but all the questions, especially those that you guessed on and got right. That way, you know what types of answers to pick and not to pick when you're down to two.

Good luck tomorrow! (if that's when you're taking it)

Thanks man!

Any other tips?
