Critical Reading/ Verbal

I just realized that I am very poor at Verbal. I only got a 640 on my PSAT verbal but a 800 on the other two. I'm taking the January SAT 1 and am wondering what advice any1 has on the verbal section. Which book should I get to practice? What should I look for?

Hello, anyone? I know some people here are verbal experts....

You should practice out of 10 Reals.
Just study the test and see how ETS forms their questions.
Find relationships and just practice.

Go to www.studyhall.com and register and go through the 10 Real Explanations.

I think verbal is mostly just how much you read and how long you've been reading. But I think some of the tricks in the review books may prove helpful...at least for analogies and fill ins. I dont know how helpful tho...good luck

I know how you feel. I got a 590 psat veral and 770 sat verbal. The difference is now I read for hours a day and memorize vocabulary...and then I try to use it. (usually making myself look dumb). After taking academic decathlon i have learned a lot of vocab from reading the resources.

I did way worse on PSAT verbal than on SAT verbal (680 vs. 800). I didn't do anything special to prep either, so I'm not sure how accurate the PSAT is in predicting scores.

For me it was the opposite, I studied vocab before PSATS and got 80, while i did not before SATs and got a 690... so hopefully if i just study before the SATs Ill do fine, also i probably shouldnt have taken it so early as a junior.

i dunno, i don't want to brag, but i made an 80 on the PSAT verbal and an 800 on the SAT, without much effort (and without missing any questions at all.)

i don't really have any specific tips; i think the reason i do so well on verbal is because i'm pretty well-read. other than that, i think the trick is in knowing how to form connector sentences for the analogies - those help a lot. also, on critical reading, if you're a slower reader, try to answer the questions while you're going down the passage, taking in questions on particular sentences in context, of course.

luck!
