Critical Studies at SCA

Hi,

I was just admitted as a Critical Studies major within SCA for Fall 2015. I’m both very excited and very surprised that I am in! It feels like I have some sort of golden ticket to some mind-blowing place. However, I still find myself a little wary of taking the CS route at SCA. From what I’ve heard, it’s mainly geared towards people with an interest in academia and/or being a critic of some sort, neither of which are my goals. I just applied for CS because I don’t really know what I would want to do within the industry, and was under the impression that the CS major gave me the most flexibility to explore the options out there for me. Now, I’m not so sure. Does anyone here know much about the Critical Studies major and/or its outcomes for students? I’m afraid I may have chosen the wrong path for me. :expressionless:

I know that USC (and especially SCA) has a crazy awesome network, and lots of opportunities for experience and stuff. I’m just not sure if those things would be as available to a CS student. I can’t help but feel that I took a risky choice for my personal situation, and USC would be a very expensive place to make a major mistake like that at. I’ll be attending Explore SC very soon, but I just want to find some info to tide my worries until then. As you can probably tell, this whole college process is quickly becoming a scary one for me.

I don’t know anyone familiar with SCA/Critical Studies, and no one from my school ever goes to USC.

I also just got in as a Critical Studies major, and since I got a merit scholarship, I went to Explore USC in February. I spent lots of time with two other CS majors and got interviewed by the Chair of the Critical Studies department, so I might be able to answer your questions, just PM me!!
