Internal transfer SCA Critical Studies

Is anyone here familiar with transferring into SCA (as a current USC student)? I transferred into Annenberg, but after my film internship and having taken CTCS 190, I'm really interested in spending my four years in the Critical Studies program. I'm not going to apply for fall 2013, since I don't feel confident with my essays and grades (3.3-3.4ish), but I'm going to apply for Spring 2014. I'm going to try and bring my GPA to above a 3.5 for Spring, and I'm taking CTCS 191 and another film class so I can acquaint myself with the faculty more for recommendations. On the other hand, how open can I be with my writing sample? I wrote two drafts on two different films, one concerning the composition work, the other literary design.

I'm so nervous when it comes to application grr. Is there anyone here who successfully transferred into the Critical Studies program? If so, would anyone care to read over my writing sample(s)? Thank you so much.

I transferred into Critical Studies from OUTSIDE of USC, but I imagine the process is similar since everyone is vying for the same open spaces. When I was at my orientation, there were only two other CTCS majors who transferred in (from outside of USC) so I don’t know if there are just few people who apply or few who get in. I only personally know one person who transferred internally. Just try your best and if you don’t get in, you can still minor and take SCA classes.

I guess my only question would be regarding your “3.3-3.4ish” grades. 190 is a lot less writing and research intensive than upper-division CTCS classes, from my experience. If you don’t like researching films and writing essays, you might be disappointed that a lot of the classes (and professors!) are much different from 190 and Casper.

As far as the writing sample, I wrote mine on a historical miniseries and I talked about a bunch of stuff - lighting, literary design, editing, costumes, etc. As long as it’s coherent, like any essay, I’m sure you’ll be fine. :)
