Cross-country dilemma

So here's the story:

Last winter, during the end of the year banquet, my coach named 3 girls captains, and only 1 guy as captain, not me. This summer, I haven't really trained at all, and I've only been to a few practices. A few weeks ago, he named another guy captain (saying that he improved so much that he deserved it..wth?)

But the coach calls me today and asks me where I've been and that he needs me on the team, now that we are good, since I am an "experienced leader of the team." Why would he say that even though I'm not a captain? Just because I'm a senior? The reason why I haven't been going is because 1) it's not fun anymore since all my upperclassmen friends graduated 2) I'm not even Captain, 3) busy on college apps and hw. So should I go tomorrow? (last day of summer practice)

Is there even a slight possibility he would announce another captain? Right now there are 2 guy and 3 girl captains. But the official fall season is starting the day after tomorrow...so no right?

Uh…

After I read this, I was unable to see why you should expect to be a captain in the first place. You’ve been skipping practice because you weren’t made a captain…I don’t think that exactly qualifies you for captaincy. I’m also a XC runner, btw.

No, I don’t think he will name you captain- but I think you should stick with XC even if you aren’t captain. I run XC too, btw and I suck worse than **** at it.
Still go, however.

Exactly. I bet you were only doing it this year to put “captain” on your apps too.
