gap = bad?

I've done xc for the last two years, decent but never top, but it's been a great experience.

This year though, my mom signed me up for SAT classes (even though I insisted I'd be fine...and I would be) which are after school.

So basically I have to quit XC this year, because the coach is totally not ok with that...I understand, it's missing almost a third of the season.

Is this a bad thing? I plan on doing XC senior year, but are colleges going to be like, oh, how come she didn't do it junior year and think bad of me?

Is there any chance your coach will let you practice with the team after your SAT classes are over? I imagine the coach doesn't want you on the team because it would be unfair for you to compete if you haven't been there the whole year like the rest of the team. If you explain to him you just want practice with the team after your class is finished so you can improve for next year, he may let you. And if you practice with the team, it's fine to write down that you ran cross country this year, even though you didn't compete. So it helps both you and your coach. He has a better runner for next year and you get to write on you application that you ran cross country all 4 years.

No, the thing is, our coach believes in dedication and teamness - and if you're not on the team, you don't practice with the team.

I mean, it's not like basketball, where you can't make up practice. I can make up workouts after practice easily, but he refuses to let me do that! That's what I don't understand, really. For some reason he thinks that we have to maintain our teamness and run all together.

I doubt he'd let me practice with the team if I wasn't actually on the team. I'll ask him, but he's a really mean coach. :(

Screw the SAT classes. Just run. The past 3 years of my high school life, I worried about academics. Sure, I got straight As and pretty good SATs, but my social life has been totally devoid. Do you go to Lynbrook or Tino? I am just going to do XC this year and set my goals as

Have fun

Have fun

Get in shape

Get into a good college

Figure out where your priorities lie. If you think taking SAT prep classes is useless, then don't bother. Besides, in my opinion they are really useless. I doubt a prep class for a standarized test can help at all cause they just make you practice and have an "expert" who got a low 2100 or so on the SAT help you.
