I have decided to chuck my crystal ball. After my D got a deferral last night on a school that I predicted a denial from and a Spring Start acceptance today that I predicted an acceptance from, I am going back to my original theory that college admissions is a complete c**pshoot.

^You just now figured that out? :)

Sorry to hear your results have been disappointing recently, 8pawsnfeet. It is a c**pshoot, as you put it, that’s why my D applied to a lot.

RobD, well said. I agree entirely.
8paws, a definite cr$"shoot. D has three acceptances and a denial. The denial was one I could see being an acceptance or a denial depending on the day… Just glad it wasn’t a deferral I think. Waiting for two more… Guessing an acceptances and a wait list. She’s in at her #1 though so its all curiosity now.

^89wahoo…congrats that your D has a #1, and that she has been accepted there. My D claims that she doesn’t have a #1 so of the two acceptances, one deferral, and now another acceptance for a late start she claims that she doesn’t care about these schools. At some point I hope she starts caring about one of the schools. She has heard from these 4 and only has 8 left on her list. As I said to a friend today…I don’t want shades of gray in college admission decisions…a simple accept or deny suits me much better than a deferral or a conditional acceptance. Kids hate being rejected, but I hate waiting, so I agree that a denial is better than a deferral…unless of course she ultimately gets in :)

Take the 8 paws ‘n’ feet and go for a walk. You need some away-from-the-computer time! :)

It’s funny that you used the term “crapshoot”. I finally mustered the courage to ask my son what he thought his chances were at the top 5 schools (teen acceptance rates and below) he where he applied. His nonchalant response was that it’s a ‘crapshoot’ and he can’t do anything about it…Wish I could be so low key about it…

During the March/early April when S was waiting for results, our mailbox was knocked down by the snow plow, and we couldn’t put it back up due to a 4-ft high pile of solid ice and snow along the road. So I had to go to the post office EVERY DAY to pick up the mail!

Talk about feeding an unhealthy obsession! :)

That’s funny consolation! I have been checking old threads on D’s LAC’s and it looks like most of her decisions will come after she leaves for her trip on March 23 (I’m chaperoning). She hasn’t decided yet, but I suspect my H will have to open the decisions and e-mail them to her, hoping she can pick up some wifi in Europe.

Way off topic here but Consolation, there is an alternative to going to the post office for your mail. Every time we get major snowfalls, our mail box gets plowed in and they won’t deliver the mail unless the mailman has a clear path without getting out of his vehicle. There is no way I’m shoveling or snowblowing 50 feet x 5 ft x 3 ft high or 750 cubic feet. I bought a $5 plastic mailbox attached it to a 4x4 and shoved it in the snowbank near the street. They delivered the mail and as the snow melted I move the mail box box until the original mailbox is uncovered. Within a week all my neighbors did the same thing.

So, 8pawsnfeet, how did those predictions go? My D got into 12/13 - much better than I would have predicted. She has it narrowed to 2 as of now.

I revisited my prediction:

“There’s no reason why, statistically, he couldn’t get into most/all them, but, truthfully, I’ll bet on a 7-2 record because a couple have really low acceptance rates. So far, he’s 2-0.”

Soooo close. I must have miscounted as he applied to eight schools. He finished 6-1-1, rather than 6-2.

THis was my original post:

So, I guess I didn’t have to guess on many by they but they both came in as acceptances. She was denied by UNC (OOS so not surprising) and got into the other five. Too bad these crystal balls don’t really work. I’d like to see what S14s acceptances are- right now! :)
