CS 108 (advanced intro to computer science) at Cal Poly slo

CS 108 covers the first two intro CS courses (CS 101 and CS 102) in one class. I passed the AP CS exam with a 4 so theorotically I could just skip the first intro class (CS 101), but I don’t want to do that because I want to know the fundamentals well since I self-studied for the AP exam and barely got that 4. Do you think I should take my time and take CS 101 anyway to nail down the fundamentals, or should I speed things along with CS 108 and leave room for more classes (I want to minor in Data Science and take some business courses)?

@jumpingBean10 my incoming sophomore skipped CS101 but took CS102 and 103 during freshman year and worked out very well and had a 4 on AP exam and significant programming experience. 108 is not offered all quarters. Check with a professor or an advisor to look at 101 and 108 syllabus or old exams to see which is best for you.

My son skipped the first CS 101 as he had a 5 on the CS AP test. He took 102 and 103 his freshman year.
CS 108 is only offered every 3 years or so, at best, so it’s unlikely that will be an option for you. Son says CS 101 is a weedercourse that is ridiculously difficult and all coding is in Python. Many kids drop it. So my advice would be to skip if if you can. CS 102/103 are very different and you do not need 101 to go on to these. Good luck!
