cs 61a is full...

and why does it say that there's no waiting list option?
is there really no waiting list?
i really need this class for my major
what do i do now?

Actually, currently, there are like 50 something spots left.

^The list you are looking at is only updated in the morning, there may very well be no more spots left.

To answer your questions though. Supposedly they are pretty accommodating about getting people into CS61A, so maybe something will open up…

If that list is only updated in the morning, then what is the list that bluebean is looking at?

^ Most likely ‘Enroll/Waitlist’ tab on Telebears since that gets updated instantly.

There will be space… waitlist yourself and just wait. People will drop so don’t fret.

i’m looking at the online schedule of classes.

Here’s what it says:

Computer Science 61A P 001 LEC:

Current Fall 2012 enrollment information and course restrictions.

enrollment information

This section is full, . This course does not use a Waiting List.

what does that mean? it seems weird that there wouldn’t be a waiting list.

Lol we’re only through like 4/10 of the Calso sessions and this class is already full???

Well I’m probably f***ked then considering I won’t be able to register until the middle of July.

Yeah, it’s weird there’s no waitlist; I thought this class always had one? Anyone know if a class as important as this one would add a waitlist or increase enrollment to accommodate?

Well Physics 7A also has no waitlist.

Don’t bother signing up for CS61A if there’s no space. Later they will increase the enrollment limit when the semester starts to accommodate everyone. CS61A is known for enrolling everyone so you just need to be patient for the next 2 months or so.

It’s a long time, I get it, but there’s nothing much you can do about it.

So basically they open up new spaces during the beginning of the adjustment period?

But how do they determine how many spaces to open up if there’s no waitlist? When we do phase I do we just ignore the class entirely then?

Yes, they basically open up new spaces during the adjustment period. They don’t need to determine how many spaces to open up because they will make it very large that everybody should be able to enroll in it. It also helps that there will be several people dropping out after the first week so it will work out one way or another.

And sure, when your Phase I comes, check one more time that if there’s any space if you can sign up for CS61A. If not, just sign up for other classes that you might’ve not necessarily planned to sign up during Phase I but you’re planning to enroll sooner or later. A good time to start searching for backup classes in case you don’t all get what you want.

OK, good to know. Thanks, UpMagic.
