CS(Engineering) vs. Math/CS(LAS)

I was wondering if there was anything that one program offered over the other. Obviously you would be doing a lot of math in both but does the CS(Engineering) path focus more on engineering applications whereas CS(LAS) focus more on theory?

I’ve heard CS engineering is more competitive to get in, but I’ve heard that both programs are prestigious and the job prospects are similar. A college rep told me that the statistics and CS major focuses more on using CS in analytic scenarios, whereas CS/Math is more theoretical based like you said. Thats all I know for now from the college rep so far!

Both CS programs take the same core CS courses. CS Engineering just requires the Engineering core (Chemistry, Physics, etc.) and CS LAS follows the LAS core (extra semester of foreign language) and also requires extra math or stats courses if you’re a CS/Math or CS/Stats major.

In CS engineering you are eligible for engineering scholarships and the 5-year combined BS/MCS and BS/MS program.

It’s not true that CS LAS is necessarily more theoretical and CS Eng is more applied. The CS courses taken are the same. Nonetheless CS/Math will require more theoretical classes in math while CS Engineering gives more opportunities to take applied courses if you desire.
