<p>What is the difference between this and the regular CS-Engineering major? Do you believe it would be cost-effective for my to parents to pay for this as an out-of-state student? And also, what are the job prospects like for Math-CS?</p>
<p>Students in both programs can take the same CS courses. The main difference is that the engineering major has to take chemistry and physics courses first and second year that the LAS major does not, and the LAS major has to take more upper level math courses than the engineering major. </p>
<p>The LAS major does not at this point have the same prestige as the engineering program but is doing well and intent is to have it be accepted as much as the engineering mjor. As an LAS major it has only been around about 6 years (it was an LAS minor before that) and thus it has not yet had enough time to develop a full track record for post college employment and grad school admissions… </p>
<p>As to being cost effective, that is a matter of opinion. My personal view is that UIUC is too expensive if you are OOS and don’t get scholarship money, particularly when most have the option of attending their own in state public university for a lot less…</p>
