My daughter got admitted for computer science undergrad at UCSC and Ohio State University. Even though USCS is ranked lower, I head CS program at UCSC is better and job opportunities are better. Any inputs on this topic is appreciated.
Santa Cruz does have a pretty good CS program, and since it’s only 30 minutes from Silicon Valley, pursuing internships and job opportunities would be easier. Beyond that, CS degrees from both schools will be viewed equivalently by most employers.
The two campuses are drastically different. I went to Ohio State a million years ago and transferred after my freshman year because I couldn’t handle the huge classes. I live just up the road from UCSC now and don’t like the campus at all, but others love it. If you haven’t visited them and have the chance, that might help you make the decision,
Thanks for your inputs, We visited OSU, She is in love with OSU Campus. However in the OSU engineering orientation, they did not talk much about their CS program. We are visiting UCSC campus this week. I guess we will find out more .
How does net price compare at each?
Take a listen to a mini-podcast I did about a student in the same situation:

I am a proud Ohio State Alum, but seriously consider UCSC.
