How do the CSE courses for non-majors compare with their for-major counterparts?

What exactly do mean non-major? Are you referring to classes such as: CSE 142/143, introductory classes.

Like classes such as CSE 373, 374, 410, 413, 415, 417 which non-majors can take, but appears to be similar enough to other classes that are only for those in the major tot he point where if one class is taken, no credit is allowed for the other (for example, if you take the non-major CSE 373, then you don’t get credit for CSE 332 and vice versa).

They cover the same material. I’m not sure about the difficulty level. I’ll have to check with people on that and get back to you.

They cover the same material, but sometimes the CSE majors class goes into a bit more depth and/or slightly faster pace. I took 332 the same time some of my friends took 373, so we were comparing notes / learning concepts together.

The main difference is really your peers. In the majors only classes, your classmates are all CSE majors. In the non-majors version, your classmates are pre-majors, Info majors, EE majors, etc.

Good to hear there isn’t a large difference.

I’m taking “CSE 131: The Science and Art of Digital Photography”

For non majors. I know a bit about cameras already so it’s not bad. I needed a VLPA.

I don’t think CSE 131 really counts as one of the courses OP was asking about since there’s no “majors only” equivalent. How are you liking it? I took it last Spring and it’ll be interesting to see what people say about it this Autumn.
