I realize there's a separate thread on both, but this thread is about choosing between the two. Feel free to merge mods if you feel that it's unwarranted.

So I qualified for USNCO (Chemistry Olympiad). Unfortunately, it's on the same date as the entrance exam for CSHP. (Columbia Science Honors Program) Both dates are locked in and can't be changed.I was wondering which of these do you think I should pick? Hearing that both were on the same date really ruined the day for me, and I've been unable to decide between which.

I am 100% sure that I could get into CSHP as the entrance exam would be a breeze for me. However, my chances of getting to the study camp for USNCO are probably miniscule. But I mean I'd really like to try it out and see how well I'd do.

You should do CSHP. However, if you feel you could make the national honors award in USNCO (top 100 out of top 800), then things would get complicated.

If you wanna see how you’d do on USNCO, then take an old USNCO exam. You can even go to the test center after CSHP w/ ur practice exam and take it to see how you’d do! or Maybe you could contact ACS and get them to ship you the 2009 USNCO so you could see how you’d do!!

Eh, I think I have a fair chance as I ended up beating out someone I know who got 70th-something last year and am certainly willing to put the time and effort into it if I end up taking the test.

Well, USNCO national honors is likely more prestigious than CSHP, but you’ll probably end up getting more out of the CSHP. However, you should get other people’s opinions first.

aw man dude that really sucks. I feel for ya. I was going to originally sign up for CSHP in April too, but then I checked the dates with USNCO before I submitted my app and took it in March. Good luck on whichever exam you decide to take though!
