CSS 2008 Income and Benefits

Hey everyone

So everywhere I look, and on the CSS site, it says that if 2008 forms are not available, we can send in the CSS without the 2008 forms, and provide them when they are available. However, I am at the point where I have completed everything on the PROFILE except for that area, and when I Save and Continue after the Supp. Qs, it says that the 2008 areas are missing and to complete those.

Is anyone else having this problem? HELP!

i heard u make an estimate on 2008 numbers based on 07 and submit it on

Right.

Estimate your 2008 income and tax info, and submit to meet the first deadline of your selected schools. Then after you have actual 2008 numbers (after your taxes are done), you correct the Profile and send it to the schools that are still in the running. Generally, they'll ask you to make a copy, and line out and correct with the updated info, but check with each school for exact instructions for updating Profile.

FinAid awards will be tentative until the schools get the final numbers, then they send a firm offer.

thank you! any more people?

sblake7 gave you the correct info

As a 1st year college applicant last year, I had to submit the Profile to several schools that I applied to. In order to meet school deadlines, I submitted the Profile form with estimated numbers (as SBlake7 says). Then, when my family's taxes were complete, I contacted the schools to find out how to correct them to actual numbers, seeing that I was not able to find any correction mechanism online.

I can tell you that all of the schools that I applied to asked for completed copies of our final tax forms, rather than a corrected Profile form. As part of the process, I received an email from CollegeBoard (where the Profile form is located/submitted) informing me that I had to submit copies of our completed tax forms. I had to print off an IDOC cover sheet for each school and then mail the cover/tax forms in as a package to each school. When the school received our tax forms, they adjusted the Profile themselves using our actual numbers. I never had to submit a correct Profile form.

Of course, every school may have a different process for receiving corrected numbers. So, it is worth contacting the Profile schools that you have applied to in order to find out what you need to do later to submit correct numbers.
