CSS Form

Why Do I need to fill out the CSS form for Northeastern? I am hoping for a merit scholarship, if I do not fill out the CSS form does this mean I cannot get a merit scholarship? Thanks!

I don’t think it affects merit-based scholarships, I think it may only be for need-based financial aid?

That form was honestly the worst part about college applications. You should call the financial aid office to confirm it will not affect a merit scholarship, no reason to take a chance on tens of thousands of dollars. Not filling it out would definitely affect need-based aid though.

We did not fill out the CSS form for Northeastern and my daughter did get a merit scholarship (did not apply for or receive financial aid)

The website says it is required.
Some schools require CSS and FAFSA for merit.

I’m dreading filling it out for my daughter who applied EA, because of the length of time to fill it out.
I plan to submit it this week.

From this webpage - no fin aid forms to get merit and yes nmf may get other merit:

UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

Northeastern has established several competitive scholarship programs to reward outstanding academic achievement. To be considered for one or more of these prestigious awards, you must apply for undergraduate admission to Northeastern no later than the regular decision deadline of January 15. Only fall freshman applicants may be considered for most of these scholarships.

Students are not required to complete the financial aid applications to be considered for a merit-based scholarship.

Many scholarships require the signing of a contract of understanding, which is included with the offer of financial assistance. Most full tuition scholarships (including the Torch, BPHS, BHA, and Balfour Scholarships) require a minimum of 100 hours of community service each year. The Center of Community Service at Northeastern provides students with the tools and resources necessary to achieve success in this program.

Merit-Based Scholarships

The top 25 percent of admitted freshman applicants may be considered for competitive merit scholarships, including the prestigious Dean’s Scholarship. These scholarship awards range from $5,000-$20,000 for the first year. In future years, amounts are awarded on a per semester basis, ranging from $5,000-$10,000 per full semester.

Northeastern National Scholarships

Students who are admitted to Northeastern and are recognized as national scholars (National Merit Finalist, National Achievement Finalist, or National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar**) will receive a $30,000 merit based award and may also be eligible for additional Northeastern merit scholarships.
