my parents are divorced and i live with my mom most of the time, so technically she is my custodial.
but on her tax forms i am listed as a dependent of my father and my moms tax form doesnt.
So the question is which parent should i put as custodial and which for noncustodial for the css profile?

The way I understand it- tax forms & FAFSA can have different responses.
Since you live with your mother, she is your custodial parent-.
I assume however that because your father claims you as a dependent on his taxes he won’t have a problem filling out the non custodial parent info for PROFILE?

Your mom is your custodial parent for the PROFILE. Your dad would complete the Non-Custodial Parent Profile if it is required for your college.

Your mom is you custodial parent and is the ONLY one listed on your FAFSA (although any child support or spousal support needs to be included).

The tax filing status really doesn’t matter for financial aid purposes…it’s who you live with the majority of the time.

So my #1 college is UNC, which i was fortunate enough to land a spot being an OSS, and according to what I read, I need to fill out both the FAFSA AND the CSS form…however UNC only uses the “custodial parent” financial info…if this is true, I should get lots of aid since my mom only makes about 24k…obviously my parents are divorced(17 years)… Hopefully I am a contender for the Carolina convenant! Anyone have any imput for this scenario? I wanna be a Tar Heel!
