CSS Profiles - Confused

Hello I am a little confused about how CSS Profiles work and if I really need to submit them to the schools I'm applying to. Please help me if possible, I can't pay $201, and I have one waiver. The schools are:
1565 - Northwestern University, IL
2116 - Columbia University, NY
2933 - Univ of Pennsylvania, PA
3003 - Amherst College, MA
3351 - Dartmouth College, NH
3667 - Northeastern University, MA
4034 - California Institute of Tech, CA
4704 - Stanford University, CA
5187 - Emory University, GA
5248 - Georgia Institute of Technology, GA
5332 - Johns Hopkins University, MD
5815 - Univ of Miami, FL

All of these schools absolutely require the Profile. If you do not submit it, your application for institutional need based aid will be incomplete, and will not get reviewed for aid at all.

If you only have one waiver, you will need to pay to submit the other Profiles to the schools. I can’t think of any way around this.

Did you think all of these would be free?

Do you have a relative who might want to give you this as a Christmas oresented…on their credit card?

@thumper1; You’re right. I am thinking I should maybe call all the schools tomorrow and ask if CSS is really needed because I can’t pay so much. Or should I take the easy way out and just pay for them?

I don’t celebrate Christmas. The sadness.

The schools on your list require the CSS Profile. They are not going to,waive submission of this form for you. Anyone applying for need based aid at these schools MUST submit the Profile.

You can call and ask the schools if they have any way to waive the fee for you. maybe they have purchased some waivers from the College Board.

But the Profile IS really needed. Period. The schools require it to be submitted.

@thumper1 Thank you for the information. I have submitted for 4 schools already. I will try to call the other schools.

If you can’t afford to pay for CSS Profile, then WHY are you applying to GT, UTexas, and some UCs?

Are you instate for any of these? None of the OOS ones will be affordable.

Do you qualify for free lunch? If so, maybe CSS Profile will waive their fees to send.

I think she has used all of her waivers. She said she applied to four schools already, and had one waiver. Is that one waver LEFT?

The student already got accepted to NEU…so that is the one that should be submitted. She should, want money from a school with an acceptance. She has been deferred at MIT and Chicago…so,there are a lot of reach schools on this list above.

Contact the colleges. maybe they can help.

But really…if you can get $201 and it will net you $50,000 or more in aid, that is a fabulous return on investment.

.>>>
Or should I take the easy way out and just pay for them?

??

If you have the money and therefore it’s the “easy way out,” then do so. If you don’t have the money then HOW can that be the “easy way out”???

My kids applied to less than a handful of schools altogether because of the app fees, and only one school required Profile.
No shame in having limits.
