So I completed all A-G requirements in order to get into a CSU or UC. However, I took an online computer literacy course to pass my graduation requirement. I passed the course with a D. My counselor informed me that it will not ruin my chances to get into a CSU as it is just a graduation requirement, is this true? I applied to CSU Fullerton, Sac State, and Fresno State. Also, do I inform the schools? Please let me know as much information as you can give
So the literacy course was not a substitute for the CSU/UC English requirement? Is it considered an a-g course?
No it is not a substitute for English. The class was just expanding our knowledge of computers and programs on the computer. It is not considered an a-g course either.
Each CSU decides their provisonal admission policy so for some highly impacted CSU’s, a D in any course Senior year, even a non a-g course could put your admission in jeopardy. To find out for sure, I would contact each CSU and ask. Make sure you document whom you talk to so if there are any problems later, you have the information to back you up. I know of only one CSU that states D’s or F’s in non a-g courses could be a cause for being rescinded (SDSU) but that school is not on your list.
Since it is a non a-g class, it probably won’t hurt you but, i would inform your target schools by phone, then email ASAP.
They don’t like surprises when your transcripts arrive. They may also offer you options to re-mediate your grade at this stage… which won’t be possible in July.
good luck
