SJSU is my top school, so if I get admitted into my department, I’ll be fine. I’m also a local.
Sac State was talking about they wanted transcripts from all my schools within 2 weeks, I don’t care enough to do all of that lol.

Honestly I’m pretty scared for my GPA since it’s overall 2.7. What are my chances of getting into any of the schools I applied to? I attended SDSU a long time ago and flunked out hard. Now I’m paying for it. My preferred CSU to be accepted to would be CSU Chico to get away from all the suburbs, highways and just suburbia culture where I live.
I think your chances are good, try to get the 2.7 up to at least a 3.0. If you have completed the ADT successfully, SJSU will award a .10 GPA bump to applicants. Also, check SJSU’s major thresholds to see if you qualify, I would focus on the fall 2015 one since its the most recent. The only thing I would worry about with SJSU is the whole local-non-local thing. It’s because SJSU gives priority admission consideration to applicants who completed their transferable units from either the Santa Clara or Santa Cruz counties. So your GPA might need to be a bit higher. But overall, your stats are very good. Chico would be a good choice. The admissions might look at the SDSU GPA as to why it’s so low. I would come up with a feasible valid explanation of why, because admissions might assume (theoretically) by your 0.17 GPA that you can’t handle rigorous coursework. As long as you explain your dip in academic performance, they will forgive that. Good luck!
How do you explain the situation to admissions? When I applied I’m not sure if it gave the option to explain, but if it did I definitely filled in some comments. Will I have to call them in and explain? I’m confused on this bit.
I’m definitely going to try to ace all my classes this final semester, although that won’t matter in terms of acceptance correct?
From what I’ve been told by my councilors, the ADT applicants are looked at separately compared to the general admission process? Or is the 0.10 GPA boost the only perk? I saw that the ADT guarantees admission to a CSU, although it doesn’t say how that works?
CC Student from HS graduation
CC GPA: 2.95
CSU GPA: 3.0
Major: Math
Units completed: too many
CSU’s applied to: SJSU, Chico, HSU, SFSU, CSUMB
AS-T: Math, will be done by end of Spring 2016.
Already got accepted to HSU and CSUMB. However if possible I want to go to either Chico or San Jose. I’m optimistic about San Jose because I am a local applicant for them. Chico admissions also told me I get a 0.2 GPA bump for the AS-T degree. Kinda wondering how favorably I’m looked at for San Jose though. The wait to find out if I got in is agonizing! When I applied to SJSU and Chico I was above a 3.0 with my AS-T. Now my grades have risen. I’m hoping this helps me look good because I had to do a supplemental application for SJSU which shows my fall grades. Since the completion of the fall semester I have a 3.1 for SJSU and a 3.2 for Chico.
My last three semesters have each been above a 3.4 (one of them was a 4.0).
Does anybody think I’ll get in?
@babyturds yes, you’ll have to call them. That’s what I did when my CC’s computer shut down and couldn’t verify a bunch of students ADT’s. your last semester is important, but it won’t interfere with your acceptance unless… You flunk your classes (highly unlikely). The bump is confusing, but from what I’m grasping it helps with major threshold admission. I.e : regular admission lets say is 3.5 for psychology, but the applicant has a 3.30 and an approved AS-T/ AA-T. So, what admissions does is they add the 3.30 + .20 which equals 3.5. So the applicant is offered admission. The .2 is for when the campus is impacted, not the program. The .10 is for both if the program is impacted and the CSU. It’s confusing lol. The ADT gives priority admission over the regular lower division applicants. In hindsight, it means they look at applicants that have done a little extra, than the minimal 39 GE units. It’s just a way to give yourself distinction from other competive applicants. Another example to put it in prospective, I completed an AS-T in Criminal Justice that’s what I put on my application. Now lets say, another applicant that has not completed an AS-T/AA-T, but wants admission into Justice Studies as well. Admissions will deny the other applicant because she/he has not completed all the CJ courses I have completed relating to Justice studies. It’s like experience vs. inexperienced. If I haven’t answered your questions, just ask and I’ll clarify. Good luck!!
@5umtim3s: First off congrats on your provisional admission!!! Now with SJSU, it’s a little more stress-inducing because they have major GPA thresholds (so fun lol, not really). I would look at their math threshold for Fall 2015, it’s the most recent. And you need to hope their GPA for math doesn’t rise, because I know CS does and MechE ( it’s super popular). The .10 gpa bump will help, but it needs to be a bit higher. You still have a chance, but as applicant pools change, it may be different. I am in the same boat as you, but my major is Justice Studies, but I applied with a 3.30 gpa, and Supplement app with a 3.29( 3.39 gpa bump). The wait is antagonizing ( trust me ). I would also suggest getting the WST out of the way in the summer, because it will hinder your graduation. But overall, you have a chance.
@5umtim3s : I did the work for you: major thresholds(http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/static/admission/xfr-f2015impact.html). Math(s) 2.00 (general mathematics), Mathmatetics (prep for teaching) 3.10. Please note: this is 2015’s so it might change.
@LadyRaven Good luck to you on getting in. I totally understand the stress at this point. As far as your first post goes what is the WST you mentioned? Also, I’m locked in with the GPA I have right now. Spring won’t help in time for the decision. If I dont get in at SJSU at least I still have Chico to look forward to.
Also, I wish my GPA was more around where yours is, but I’m happy with the work I’ve done.
Hopefully my local applicant status, AS-T, and GPA will all work together in my benefit.
@5umtim3s: the WST is the writing standards test, it’s just to see if your writing skills are up to par. If you don’t take/pass it, it will delay you getting your bachelors. It’s like the exit exam in HS. I believe you have a shot getting in, don’t doubt yourself. I’m sure admissions realizes that it is difficult to stay above a GPA range for college students. Look at the positive side, you still have Chico university. It was hard to stay that high where my GPA is lol. I was more shocked that it was a hair away from a 3.40. The grades you get in spring, help you keep your admission.Just remember to maintain the GPA average you supplied on your supplemental application, or even push it higher. That shows admissions that they didn’t make a mistake in choosing you. I’m also glad you are proud of your work, many people can not do what we are doing. I hope I get into SJSU as well, our locality will help our chances.
After my supplemental APP
CCC: Rio Hondo College

Good luck everyone! Looking forward to hearing about acceptances!
What is this GPA boost everyone’s talking about? I’m sick and my head isn’t processing words right now lol but I’m getting my AS-T in business admin. The campus and major I want to get into are both impacted, will i be able to benefit from this so called ‘boost’? Can someone explain this to me, it would be very much appreciated
Does anyone know if we have to update the csu’s that we’ve changed our schedule or dropped classes and added new ones?
Thank you
So the way it works is that some colleges (but not all) will award a GPA bump to students transferring with an ADT. Sometimes you are even given preference during the review process over other students who don’t have one! However, you should call the admissions department of the college you are trying to transfer to and ask them what their policy is. This is because not all colleges award the same bump (if at all).
Example: SJSU awards a 0.1 bump to your GPA while Chico awards a 0.2 bump
If the classes you dropped are major specific then you should definitely let them know. When you fill out your application on CSU Mentor there is a section on planned courses that you had to fill out so any changes made to that should be made clear to the colleges you’ve applied to.
Okay, thank you. I’ll try calling them on Monday but do you happen to know if CSUF or CPP award this bump?
