CSU GPA changing when senior 1st semester grades entered

Hello,

I’ve always thought that CSU’s don’t use your senior grades to calculate your gpa. However, when we enter my daughter’s 1st senior semester grades into the CSU application, her gpa changes. We were told by the school that she MUST report her 1st senior semester grades.

This is different to everything I’ve heard about CSU not using senior grades for gpa calculation. I’m confused! Anyone have any insight?

Thanks,

Typically, most Seniors do not have 1st quarter/semester grades when applying to the Cal States however, if Senior grades are available for any a-g courses, they need to be reported and will be included in the CSU GPA calculation.

From the CSU Apply website:

[quote]
Your high school grade point average (GPA) is calculated on all “a-g” courses completed after ninth grade.

You mention “semester”. Most semesters end towards December after applications are due.

Is your daughter on a quarter system? Are these mid-term (progress reports) or final grades that will be on her HS transcript?

We are on a quarter system but get 2 grades per year (4 classes per quarter which alternate between 1st and 3rd and 2nd and 4th) so we enter them as semester grades and the first quarter just finished, so we already have 4 of our hs transcript 1st semester grades if that isn’t too confusing!

So I guess for our high school, senior grades ARE included in the CSU gpa calculation whereas they are not for others which doesn’t seem to show consistency among applicants…
