What are chances of getting in if waitlisted?

Getting off the waitlist depends upon how many students end up enrolling by May 1 SIR date. It changes from year to year. Waitlisted applicants should consider it a rejection and move on to schools where they have an acceptance. If you do get off the waitlist, then it is icing on the cake.

Thank you.

Can anyone share their impressions of what CSU Long Beach would be like for an OOS freshman looking for a “typical” college experience? I hear that it is a commuter school and not many freshman live on campus. Community and school spirit is important to him. Thanks for any insights!

Check out Niche for some of that kind of info…

We’re confused over here. When you all say your “portal was updated,” do you mean you went to that page that gumbymom linked above and when you selected “check application status” you saw something different or you just selected to receive an update and then got an update in your email? That’s all it’s letting us do.

When you login to the portal it says “ You have been offered provisional admission”. Haven’t received an email yet to personal email address yet

Is it via this/process, not in this order…this resulted in an email with the status.

Yes

That’s where we got the impression that it is a commuter school:( hoping there might be other perspectives:(

Also just to clarify, after you enter your campus id, you enter your SSN and birthday, validate that it is correct and then you select fall term 2021 and then it brought you to a screen with your application status. performing these steps did not send me an email status. It just showed up that you were accepted on the portal.

As someone who lives in Long Beach, I will say that although CSULB has a large number of commuter students, with a large portion of its students being from the Long Beach area, it does have dorms and fraternities & sororities and the like, albeit not to the extent of some flagship universities in other states. It however is most different from other public universities with larger residential student populations is it’s lack of a football team to cheer for (there is always the other sports teams though!). It is a wonderful, highly rated institution, and Long Beach is hustling and bustling with a lot to do, our downtown most of all. If you have any other questions about specific aspects of the university just holler!

Thank you that’s so helpful!

You can check the common dataset for any college to see the % of students that live on campus. See section F1. As stated above, there are dorms for students so according the CDS for 2019-2020, 27% of students lived on campus.

In general, the majority of the Cal states are considered “commuter” schools since they are setup to service local students and usually only Freshman live on-campus (requirement for most Cal states until Covid).

SDSU recently required on-campus living for 2 years for non-local students. Covid has thrown a wrench into the on-campus housing situation for all the schools.

Not sure where your D applied, but Cal Poly SLO, SDSU, San Marcos, Sonoma, Humboldt and Chico are campuses with a higher percentage to students living on campus.

My niece is a currently a Freshman at CSULB. CSULB has begun vaccinating their Staff and eventually all students in the hopes they will be able to return to in person classes and on-campus living. Fingers crossed since my niece has every intention of living on-campus in the Fall if possible.

Only downfall for many of the CSU campuses is that cars are usually needed to get around and some campuses limit parking for Freshman. There are some exceptions like SDSU which does have the Green Trolley station on campus and Cal Poly SLO has a trolley into downtown.

He gets these and then they send him an email that looks rather generic. So, my guess is that my son doesn’t have something just showing up because he’s still under review. Did you (or anyone) have a status pop up before that said pending or under review or anything, or only since you got a decision?

We never checked the application status before decisions were made last week so not sure what we would have got if we checked a couple of weeks before. Sorry I can’t help

That’s what my sons looked like a few weeks ago. Then it changed and now it shows he is “provisionaly accepted” instead of saying it will email the update.

Hey guys. Until a couple days ago when I tried fo check my applicant status, an email update was sent to my email after I went to the applicant self service and submitted the details for it. But now, I do it and I don’t recieve any mail. Does anyone have any idea why?
