CSU Long Beach Class of 2025 Discussion

Thank you!

My son got an email notifying him of acceptance into the honors program late last week. Yay!

Congrats! My D also received email too but she is going to SDSU instead

Hi, I am currently a student at CSULB. “Pre-CS” just means that your son has to complete the pre-major lower division requirements (before 60 units) before he can officially be declared as a CS major. Therefore, it won’t be difficult for him to get into CS from pre-CS. Also, for UCs, it can be more difficult to switch from undeclared into CS depending on the school because CS is a popular major and there will be a lot of other students who will be trying to go from undeclared into CS. Though, it’s not impossible

Thanks you for this! Do you feel like CSULB has a decent CS program?
Any positives/negatives you can tell us about will help my son decide!

I’m not a CS major, but several of my friends are and they say that the program is decent and it’s relatively similar to the CS program at CPP and CSUF. If your son has a specific interest (web dev, computer graphics, AI, etc), I would definitely recommend checking out the class catalog for whichever schools he is deciding on and see what classes and electives they have to offer. Of course, every school has great professors and not so great ones, but personally I haven’t dealt with a bad professor yet. Also, some of my friends said that the department is pushing to hire younger and other experienced professors. My friends haven’t had any problems with securing interviews and some have gotten offers from large companies like Google and Deloitte. As long as your son works hard, he should be able to do well at whichever school he chooses!

Class of 2025 - I would love to hear about your experience if you attended (attend) CSULB. Were you able to get housing? Did you hear of any freshmen who wanted dorms but couldn’t get them? Were you able to find the college experience you were looking for? Thanks!
