HI! I believe I have a 3.1 CSU/UC gpa. What Cal State schools in Southern California should I apply to?
What is your SAT/ACT scores? What is your intended major?
What is your local in-service area CSU?
CSU’s admit by eligibility index and major.
EI= (CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math + EBRW) or (CSU GPA x200) + (ACT composite x10)
My SAT is 1300 (650 for both) and my intended major is political science
Based on your stats, your EI is 3780.
You would have a chance at all the CSU’s except Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, San Diego State, Cal State Long Beach and Fullerton so take your pick.
Cal State Los Angeles, Dominguez Hills, San Bernardino, Northridge, Channel Islands and San Marcos.
What are the average EI’s for all the schools in SC?
For SDSU, you need around a 4100+ to be competitive
For CSULB, around 3950-4000+
For CSUF and CPP, around a 3800+
Much will depends upon the intended major but these give you a general idea. Impacted campuses such as SDSU/CSULB/CSUF will be harder since all majors are impacted. CPP might be slightly easier since Political Science is not impacted there.
For the rest of the listed CSU’s, your EI looks competitive.
Apply widely so you have several options. Your SAT score is competitive, but your GPA is holding you back.
good list of target schools above, One thing I’d add, CPP looks at your second choice major so, choose one of the less competitive majors for either primary or secondary Poli Sci is a good one, I think 3780 will get you in fir that major. You have lots of NCal options too - including Sonoma, Chico and, of course Sac State, which has an outstanding poli sci program due to it’s proximity to the capitol.
Good luck.
