I’m a rising senior in high school, but I have been a part of the Academic Decathlon throughout high school. We can get college credit at CSUS junior and senior year by filling out an application.
1.) Will this credit transfer over to the colleges I’m applying to? (Stanford, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, and SJSU)
2.) Am I still considered applying as a freshman (basically as though this was AP credit) or since I’m transferring credits am I, in a way, a transfer student? I don’t think I’d be a transfer student since I didn’t take a full semester or anything like that but I’m just making sure.
College credit earned before high school graduation should not force you to apply as a transfer student.
Transferability does depend on what the courses are. There may be some courses at CSUs that are not transferable to UCs, since there are community college courses that are CSU-transferable but not UC-transferable (see http://www.assist.org for the latter). Also, even when credits are transferable, the course content does not always line up, which may prevent getting subject credit.
But most common academic courses (e.g. calculus, non-remedial English composition, history, physics, economics, etc. courses that are suitable for students majoring in those subjects) should be transferable.
