CSU - San Bernardino

Since there isn't a designated discussion area for CSU - San Bernardino, I thought to make a thread about the university for past, current and prospective students to chat in. Which majors/programs is CSUSB known for? How are the courses, on-campus and online? Is it easy to change majors? Is it a commuter campus or a residential campus? How is the surrounding area? Are professors and students friendly, helpful, etc.?

I’m also interested in knowing if it’s hard to get into accounting classes as a junior transfer?

Well, I am not a student or a prospective one either, but I live five minutes from the campus.
San Bernardino is a HUGE communter school. The reason is that most kids who go there live in the local area, and none of them want to pay that extra money just to live in the dorms. Also lots of them come from the same high school, so all of them have “friends” going in; there is no need to make new ones. (Even transfers, because most transfers come from the local community colleges like valley. )
The surrounding area is freakin boring. There is a game stop, nail salon, redbrick pizza place, and a cvs market in this little shopping center that is 4 minutes away. That is the only thing around, besides houses. I’m not trying to scare you away, but unless you have a car, there isn’t anything around in the area to enjoy. There is a mall fifteen minutes away (by car) but that is it.
San Bernardino is not really known for being a “lively city” with a million things to do. (I lived here all my life. We didn’t even have a movie theater until last year!)

It has a strong education/liberal studies program and a strong child development program; that is mostly what it is known for. Also criminal justice is good too. Not sure about accounting.
I have older friends who go there and everyone says people are friendly, they just don’t stay around after school to socialize much. The campus is a decent size. I went on a field trip there and it seemed like a calm campus. It has a Starbucks, denny’s and a REALLY nice library. (It has more but that is mostly what I remember. ) also they have this annual pow wow festival that is really cool.

It is a good school, espically for future educators. But beware; it is an impacted school. It just BARELY declared schoolwide impaction.
I didn’t apply here mainly because I wanted to go somewhere farther away. But mostly everyone from my high school applied here and they are having a fun time in their classes.
That is all I have time to type right now. (My pinky is sore. Sorry!)

If there is any other info you need let me k now. Like I said I live SUPER close to the campus. Plus I know lots of people who go there.
Have a good day!

Thanks for the great info Defying! My son has been accepted to CSUSB for Criminal Justice. We’re waiting for word from a few more schools but CSUSB is a possibility. We live in San Marcos and he doesn’t want to go CSUSM for the same reason you don’t want to go to CSUSB. He hasn’t taken a tour yet but we’re trying to gather info.
Thanks!

You’re very welcome! Congrats to your son! Just so you know, Criminal Justice is hard to get into at CSUSB. One of my friends got rejected to that major (And she lives right next to the school!) She has really good grades as well (AP student) ,so your son must have amazing stats!

Thanks for the info about that. He’s still deciding but AI’m thinking CSUSB looks the best for him.
