I'm currently a sophomore at Cal State Northridge and, due to a change in academic goals, have decided to withdraw from CSUN at the end of this semester to go to a community college. From there I look into transferring into a UC.

These are my questions:

Is it possible that any of the classes I took at CSUN (GE's) will qualify for IGETC?

How do I go about withdrawing from the university? Does anyone know if there is a formal process to this, or should I simply get in touch with an academic advisor about this?

I plan on attending Pierce Community College throughout the academic year, but since Pierce and the other cc near me are not offering winter and summer sessions is it possible to take courses during these sessions at another community college like Santa Monica College?

Also, since I am making the switch in the middle of the academic year how will this affect my financial aid?

I did the exact same thing two years ago except I decided to leave CSUN after the fall semester of freshman year. The CSUN classes actually filled in 3 IGETC areas for me at Moorpark college. You can take classes wherever you want to. You would have to speak to a financial advisor at the community college you want to attend to find out more info about that. Once you leave CSUN those CSU units will make you ineligible for TAG at UCI. As long as you are below the 80 unit threshold when you apply to transfer you should be eligible for TAG for the other UC’s depending on your GPA. Good luck.

Since you brought up the 80 unit threshold, are only UC transferable courses applicable to this limit?
I took a speech class freshman fall semester, but I don’t think that would be UC transferable because they don’t have a speech requirement.

Only transferable courses are applicable to the 80 unit limit, but be careful not to confuse IGETC with UC transferable. Just because a class you took at CSUN isn’t an IGETC requirement doesn’t mean it is not UC transferable.

Also, some majors like engineering and computer science are exempt from the 80 unit limit. This is due to the fact that you have to take a ridiculous amount of units before you can even think about transferring.
