Current School: San Diego State University
Current Major: Chemistry/Biochemistry
GPA: 3.98
Units: 79 (71 transferrable)
ECs: Lab Assistant for Biology Department,Treasurer of two honor societies, Ambassador (official student representatives, tour guides, and orientation leaders of SDSU), Honors student, Peer Scholar.

Personal Essays pretty good.

I applied to UCLA (Biochemistry, alt. major Chemistry Material Science), UCB (chemical biology), UCSD(Biochemistry and Cell Biology, alt. major Physiology and Neuroscience), and UCSC (Chemistry).

I know the chances are low for a non-CCC/UC student to transfer to a UC school, and I also haven't taken any organic chemistry/microbiology courses yet (which are required or highly recommended for UCLA Biochemistry, UCB chemical biology, and UCSD Biochemistry and Cell Biology, but not for the other alt. majors I chose or Chem for UCSC)
Chance me?

I’m also at State and I want to transfer too! Your GPA is strong so I’d say your chances are strong… At least I hope your chances are strong because with my 3.85, where would I stand? UCLA/Cal are both probably reaches though given that they’re big on pre-reqs.

EDIT: How have you determined which courses are transferrable btw?

Depends- what is your major? Are you transferring this year too? We should get coffee sometime!

Biology! I see that we have CHEM 200/201/232 and BIOL 204 in common. I also took Math 121/122 instead. And I’m hoping to transfer this year… My heart’s set on UCSD since it’s still within SD haha. And maybe one day, I’ve yet to visit the new Starbucks on campus

did you finish all of the pre-major requirements for Biology?

For SDSU, I’ll be done with all pre-major requirements except for one lab (Biostats - it isn’t even required for the UC’s) by the end of Spring.

I think I’ll have all pre-reqs done for the UC’s as well with the exception of a second semester of OChem. Idk, just sorta winging it and hoping that my courses will transfer over.

CSU-UC articulation is just a fuzzy area that I’m trying to postpone worrying about until after decisions, y’know? I just assumed that maybe there was a surefire way of knowing which courses transferred since you stated that 71/79 of your credits were transferrable…

Average admitted at UCLA is 3.82 for Biochem, I’d say you’re a strong candidate and if your PS is 7/10 you’re in.

@SDSUCSD - Use Assist.org under transferable courses

@matt4200 PS? does that stand for personal statement?

Oh btw, random bit of information:

26 SDSU students applied as transfers to UCLA last year. 3 got in. The odds aren’t in our favor, but it isn’t impossible…

update:
Accepted to UCSC.
Pending: UCSD, UCLA, Cal

I think you’re a very strong candidate but the missing O chem is concerning considering how much UCB and UCLA weigh pre-reqs. Also I’ve heard that alternative majors aren’t even considered normally. If a student at my college does TAP (honors program) and applies to UCLA they get a second major option as consideration but as far as I know everyone else just gets the 1. I truly hope you get in though, you seem extremely qualified.

@socaltransfer14 thanks for the input. I guess when i write my appeal I’ll explain why I couldn’t take it (my school’s program plans for me to take it during this summer), and say that I’m taking Ochem and microbio over the summer. kind of sad I’m already expecting to write an appeal :P

@ChemTransfer14 i want to transfer too from csu to uc can you give more information about how have you choose your classes also my major is biochemistry ?
