Hi everyone!
So I’ve read through pretty much all forums that relate to CSU to UC transfers and have been heavily discouraged about attending a CSU since it has the last priority to transfer to a UC, but I ultimately knew I couldn’t attend a CCC because throughout the years, many CCC students know that getting classes is really difficult and makes transferring a bit hard. I attend SFSU now and I’m looking into transferring to any top tier UC school. I was curious as to anyone having any sort of knowledge or experience in getting their course credits transferred? I’m afraid I might not reach the 60 unit limit in order to transfer…
@pugzandhugz CSU does not have last priority.
The hierarchy is:
CCC > UC
UC>UC
CSU>UC
OOS 2 yr > UC
OOS 4 yr > UC
Intl >UC
UC to UC, and CSU to UC are pretty interchangeable.
Really, just stop listening to everyone up here with the doom and gloom re CSU transferring. It does not have to be a CCC. Its unbelievable that this misinformation never stops and it harms ppl. Yes, CCC is # 1, but let’s put it in perspective with a hypothetical:
1000,000 apply to a UC from a CCC
1,000 apply from a CSU.
Of course the numbers will look dramatically lower with a CCC, and yes they give the edge to CCC, without a doubt, but there are so many ppl up here who transfer from a CSU ** all the time **. Don’t let the naysayers make you lose faith.
Go to assist.org and match the courses from the uc and major you are interested in. Talk to a counselor. Re lower division CSU, unless the courses are really off the grid they tend to match well with the UC courses. But again talk with an advisor.
@lindyk8 thanks! I’m still going to apply to UC’s regardless, it’s just the paranoia in me. I’m more afraid of the credits need to transfer in order to even be considered. Do you have any idea what credits would transfer? I don’t want under 60 units kill me to even be considered.
@pugzandhugz Another thing to keep in mind: I can only imagine the number of CSU transfers who are ineligible because they didn’t fulfill the requirements. If a major says IGETC it really needs to be completed. They are all basic courses, such as intro to sociology or intro to psych or intro to bio, so are going to match well. Pm me if you want more detailed direction.
@lindyk8 I actually PM you before you commented on this forum!
Hi there, I applied to transfer out of CSUF this year and have been accepted to UCI, UCSD, and UCLA. CSU students definitely do not get last priority, but just make sure to aim for a GPA slightly higher than average CCC applicants. As far as reaching the 60 units, don’t worry because even if the courses you’ve taken at SFSU don’t transfer directly to a UC they will most likely give you unit credit for it. I completed 80 credits at CSUF and the UCs took 79 of them (1 of those units was P/NP workshop class so it didn’t transfer over).
@2016Candles was a CSU to UC transfer I think. Maybe she can offer some insight.
Generally, most classes will transfer over. Just make sure you don’t hit the uni max with any upper division courses
I was sort of a CSU transfer. I did all but 1 semester at CC, and I applied to UCs in November. But then in January, I did 1 semester at a CSU. SO when the UCs accepted me, they did so with the impression that I transferred directly from CC. Technically since I had taken 1 CC course that sane semester, they let me keep my cc status.
But all my CSU courses (6 total) transferred. I had to petition 1 course to receive any credit, and another to receive major credit. Make sure you have ALL syllabi and course descriptions.
@mayday5 Where do you plan on going after recieving your acceptances? What is your intended major?
The UCs pretty much have articulation agreements behind the scenes with all the CSUs, except for some courses that might be off the grid. They don’t reinvent the wheel each time. And just to make sure you don’t get confused re: the P/NP we talked about @pugzandhugz, mayday noted it was a workshop, meaning vocational, which the UCs don’t accept.
@mayday5 I stumbled on your comment and i was wondering if i could ask you a few questions i am also a hopeful csu to uc transfer:)
