CSU transfer, previously disqualified

I was academically d/q'd from UCSD after my third quarter with two W's (class + lab), and two F's. My reason is because my family was having a hard time paying (under the poverty line, one parent) and I had to go back home every week to work for a family friend (few hours drive). My grades took a hit and I got disqualified after a year.

My UC-GPA was around a 1.6.

I went to CC so I could stay near home. First semester I get a 4.0, and the next I get a 3.75. I'm pretty sure I will be getting a 4.0 this semester too (currently in honors).

But my overall GPA is a 2.98...

My major is computer science. I am Korean-american if it matters for the apps.

I am applying to CSU Fullerton, CSU Long Beach, SLO, Pomona as my main choices. I was accepted to them all out of high school, but I'm scared my ugly GPA will prevent me from all schools. Do you guys think I will get into at least one? I don't know if I should give UCs a shot either, since my ugly academic history.

Sad story. I also had to work all through college, but I found a great job with very high pay allowing me to not work as much.

Might be spilled milk, but didn’t UCSD put you on probation first? The state schools are really brutal on those who aren’t very proactive. You might be able to talk to your counselor and go back to UCSD.

That said, 2.98 is at the range of what you need for those schools. Apply for some of the lower UCs as well. Can’t hurt.

@BuBBLES FoR SALE

Thanks for the reply. I was put on probation after I failed one class. I was determined to do well for the next quarter, but it was getting harder and harder to pay for. At the same time my family was almost evicted from their home. I was really stressed and my grades slipped, so I decided to withdraw from my classes and move home until things got more stable.

So yeah, I’m in my third semester now. I REALLY do not want to stay any longer at CC, because it is ridiculously easy and a complete waste of time IMO. Hopefully my 2.98 is good enough to get me into Fullerton :(

bump! any thoughts would be appreciated
