CSUF or community?

I failed to qualify for all the UCs I applied for because of my low GPA (3.4)
(I was stupid and overconfident and didn't apply to UCR at all)
I found out that I did get accepted into Cal State Fullerton with the Honors program in Computer Science, but my parents said they'd rather I go to community college and try to transfer to a UC again.
I figured if I couldn't get into UC as a freshman, it'd still be pretty hard to transfer.
Also, there is a slight change that I could transfer to UC from CSUF.
I just wanted some more input on the situation. What do you guys think?

As I remember correctly, CSU students have lower priority to be considered in UC as transfer. CC’s are much cheaper and if you do well, it is a ticket to UC’s. However, you must be confident in your two years at CC, otherwise, CSUF is not too bad in CS.

I don’t know anything about Fullerton, but overall, it is a positive that you were accepted into the Honors College and into your preferred major of Computer Science. It is a very competitive field.

Do you want the freshman, residential, on-campus experience of living in dorms? If so, and Fullerton has dorms and offers a residential lifestyle for freshman, then you should try Fullerton.

Maybe even if you are a commuter to Fullerton, it might be the best option.

If you feel that you can get 3.5-4.0 in community college to compete with the transfer applicants to the higher rated UC Computer Science programs, then go that route.

I am no expert, just a mom with a son who also has to make decisions about where he will land in the Fall.

Good luck with your decision!

My husband’s friend has a Masters in CS from CSUF and he highly recommends their program. My younger S was also accepted into the Honors program but has opted for SDSU (CSUF too close to home and wanted to live on-campus). You have to remember, that the Cal States were meant to get students out in the workforce so more hands-on experience vs. UC’s which are more theoretical. When it comes to CS, you do not need a UC education to succeed, you just need to be able to have marketable skills. I would choose CSUF. Good Luck
