I've seen other posts on here about this topic, but my situation is a bit different. I'm not a high school student. I've been off and on in community college for a while. I started in 2008 going to a community college. Overall, it was a good decision to go to CC rather than a 4 year university right after college because I didn't know what I wanted to do. I ended up earning an AA in music and then worked for a while before I found that I love programming. Last year I returned to CC to study computer science, with the goal of transferring to a UC (my number one choice is UCSD).

The problem is, this year my community college implemented a rule to cut off priority registration to any students who have over 90 units due to the budget issues and impacted classes. I am one of them since I took classes in the past and earned a degree. My GPA is good, but now I can't get into classes at any of my local CCs. At this point, I'm not eligible yet to transfer to a UC because I have not completed all of the lower division major requirements.

I think my only option is to go to my local CSU, and then see about transferring to a UC after I finish some more lower division course work. Does anyone know if there's a better alternative to get into a UC with my current situation? I've already checked schools in three different community college districts near me (for a total of 7 different colleges, up to 1 hour drives away) and everything I need is either full or not offered. Assuming I maintain a good GPA at the CSU (3.8+) what are the chances of me being able to transfer to a UC from my CSU? Computer science is a really competitive field and I really don't want to earn my degree from my local CSU, but it's better than nothing I suppose.

Thanks for suggestions.
