CSUF To UCI

I am currently a sophomore at CSUF. What are my chances of transferring to UCI for fall 2015-2016 admission?

My stats:
Overall GPA: 3.6
Major GPA: 3.75
Units (after I complete this semester): 57
Extracurriculars: Computer Science Club, Circle K International, Volunteer at LA Food bank, 20-25 hours/week at fast food
Major: Computer Science

I guarantee that you are going to get into UCI

Wait, you said that you are CURRENTLY a sophomore, right? If you are a sophomore right now, then the time for you to have applied to UCI was last september. If you reach 60 credits at a 4 year university, then UCI will not take you. I am really hoping that you didn’t word your question right. Do you mean the 2014-2015 school year?

Well, now that I have read your post again, you have no chance. To transfer to a UC school, you have to have 60 credits.

I’m in a very similar situation as yours, but I’m a year ahead of you. I’m a computer science major from another big CSU with a GPA of 3.91/3.78, and we have very similar EC’s.

I applied to 6 UC’s and to be honest, I don’t think I’m getting into any of them.

Applicants like me are so low on their priority that the probability of getting into a mid-range UC with even a 4.0 seems to be OK at best. To maximize your chances, I advise you do some serious research on what type of classes UCI wants from their transfer students. You might even want to consider moving to a CCC for a year.

I’ll be sure to update you when my decision comes out, but I’ve been rejected from UCSC and UCSB already so far.

Also, I wanted to correct what @CollegeDropout1 has said.

UCI does NOT have a upper unit cap for students coming in from a 4-year university. You must have 60 units, however, to be considered for transfer admission. Also, no, you are definitely not a shoe-in for UCI; however, that’s not because of your stats, but because they just have way too many applicants that have higher priority.

@CollegeDropout1 I will have 86 units by Spring 2015. As cidzor stated, they do not have a unit cap BUT they only take in 70 semester units if you are admitted.

@cidzor Even though you are CSU applicant, your GPA is rather high and I would be surprised if none of the mid-tier UCs admitted you. I heard they take into consideration mainly GPA and prerequisites, not so much on the ECs. Have you completed all your prerequisites, did you take any upper division courses? I’m surprised UCSC and UCSB denied you.

Keep me updated, good luck.

@cidzor With a high GPA like that you still got rejected from UCSC? That’s really strange. Are you sure you completed all your requirements? You are def. a good applicant and well above I’d say most CCC applications who applied to the same schools as you (except UCB and UCLA of course). You should give UCSC and UCSB a call and find out why you’re rejected!

I know this is an old thread, but I went to CSUF through my junior year. I took a break, went to CC and retook units to make them UC transferrable. I’m transferring to UCI this fall. It’s completely doable. Just work hard and present a good app if you are in a competitive major. Good luck!
