Does it matter which school I go to? Are both schools equally competitive in terms of getting better grades?
I plan to major in something in the Humanities category, but take the required medical school courses on the side.

Of course, UCI has a good med school - so undergrads might have better research opportunities at UCI. CSULB has a Veteran’s Hospital sitting next to it, but I don’t know if the pre-med students have any research or hands-on opportunities there.

Thirty years ago, it would have been argued that it’s harder for a CSU grad to get into med school. I don’t think that’s still the case…especially since CSULB (and CSUFullerton) has progressed well in the rankings.

Since you plan on majoring in some Humanities area, it probably won’t make much difference which one you choose since the CSUs are usually strong in those majors.

However, if you’re accepted to both, and both are equally affordable (without debt), I would probably choose UCI. Keep in mind that you’ll likely have debt for med school, so minimize any undergrad debt.

Disclosure: I am a UCI grad. I’ve also taken some courses at CSULB.
