Hello I’ve been accepted to a couple of universities and have lowered it down to three options. My dream school was UCLA but I rejected. I’m not sure which to pick.I also got accepted at UCSB but am not really comfortable going far. I’d be dorming at both CSULB and UCI but would commute to CC and UCLA. CSULB is pretty cheap and UCI is considered a better school since it is a UC but it is a bit more expensive. I can take out loans but I’m worried about drowning in debt. I’m hoping to major in both Business and Film. If I attend either CSULB or UCI then I’d like to get the college experience the first year. However I won’t get that same experience if I go to CC. I’m afraid if I go to CC in hopes of transferring to UCLA and get rejected, I’ll regret not going to UCI or CSULB. Please help!
Being a UC does not make any particular school better than another. Much depends upon your intended Major and your college budget.
Why UCLA and what aspects of UCLA are important to you that you cannot get at another UC or CSU?
I’d imagine the name UCLA could get me into jobs easier than if I went to CSULB. I know it also depends on my work experience. I’ve also heard their programs are good. Since UCI is still a UC I was considering just attending there.
School name may open some doors, but landing that job will be all up to you.
I have been involved in hiring and promoting lots of people in the financial services and high tech industries. it matters a lot less than you think - especially after your first job. Funny enough, I know several silicon valley managers who won’t hire fresh graduates from UCB or UCLA - in their words ’ they don’t know how to work and need too much babysitting’. Call the LB and UCLA career centers and ask who recruits on-campus… i bet there’s a 90% overlap.
