I’ve been reading a lot about needing a 3.9 to transfer to CSUN if you’re not local. Just wondering if anyone can confirm this for me…? I’m trying to get into their cinema arts program for screenwriting but I’m really nervous, as I’m not local and have a 3.5 gpa, Pretty low
-If anyone is in their cinema arts program currently, I’d love to hear your opinions on it! Thanks!
I got my BA in CTVA with screenwriting option. I transfer with an AA in Liberal Arts from Santa Monica College (SMC) before enrolling in my junior and senior years at CSUN. I am now in the graduate screenwriting program and will receive a MFA next spring.
Where are you reading about needing a 3.9? I got in with a 3.6 gpa but SMC transfer program pretty much guarantees acceptance. That said, I don’t think the screenwriting option requires a 3.9 or higher. You might need that gpa to get into the film option.
Also, what’s not local? Are you in CA, out-of-state or an international student?
CSUN’s CTVA program is great in terms of class size and the quality of professors. This semester I have a class that meets at Amazon Studios and is taught by the head of physical production. The program has recently been getting national recognition and students graduating with a CTVA BA from CSUN have a reputation of being well-trained and prepared for jobs within the entertainment industry. I couldn’t be happier with my experience at this campus.
Thanks for the reply!
I was reading a few posts on here about non local transfers who were not accepted with super high GPAs. Read a few articles stating CSUN is in some trouble with the state and needed to stick to accepting mostly local students because of the major impaction. -Local would be Northridge area, I’m in San Diego.
I talked to a college counselor and she basically told me good luck and that I probably won’t get in, which was a bummer to hear. Apparently this whole needing a high GPA thing is very recent, but I’m still going to apply and hope for the best.
Thanks for the rundown on the program, really hoping it will work out. Any other schools in LA you’d recommend for screenwriting? Besides UCLA and USC.
