CSUSM vs SDSU

  1. How does CSUSM compare to SDSU for a business major?
  2. Is CSUSM rather easy to get into from out of state? If so, what GPA and ACT would be competitive for an OOS applicant?
  3. What is the campus feel at San Marcos versus SDSU?
  4. Is it harder to get a job coming from San Marcos versus SDSU upon graduation?
  5. Overall, is CSUSM as good as SDSU?

Also, what are my chances with a 3.86 and a 24 act?

  1. I would compare the Business curriculum for each school to see which best fits your interests and needs. If you are into rankings, SDSU is a top ranked university while San Marcos is not ranked.

San Marcos is also a fairly new campus so it will take time to establish their reputation.

  2. CSUSM is definitely an easier admit than SDSU. Average UW GPA is 3.27, average SAT 950, average ACT 21 while SDSU’s averages are UW GPA 3.67, SAT 1174 and ACT 27.

  3. SDSU is a beautiful campus with many California mission style buildings. Very diverse and a active campus. San Marcos has has newer buildings and a more commuter feel but very clean.

The campus feel for colleges is very subjective so I would definitely visit before making a decision.

  4. SDSU has a very strong alumni network and a good career center. Cannot comment on San Marcos.

  5. Overall, again it is up to each individual to find their fit. SDSU is one of the top ranked schools in California and nationally recognized for many of their programs and Cal State San Marcos is probably only has local/regional recognition as a university.
