So, hopefully, perhaps someone currently at UNC can answer this question. AP exam scores won't be published until mid-July yet most of the CTOPs sessions where you sign up for classes are before this. How do you sign up for classes when you don't know what you will get credit for on your APs?

My son waited and got his AP scores before he went to CTOPS. If you can’t wait and go to a later session, just sign up for the classes you know you will need, regardless of the AP scores. Also, you can always drop/add later.

You can also call and get scores on July 1st for a fee.

I wouldn’t worry too much about classes. There are a certain number of spots open to people at each CTOPS, so it really depends on which sign up slot you are assigned in your CTOPS session. Furthermore, there is a lot of switching between classes for the first week. So again, don’t stress about classes. It will work out one way or another.

I have a similar question. I have taken 11 AP classes and expect to get 37 credits based on all my scores. Do I get these credits and could potentially graduate in 3 years, or do I just get to electives instead of those 37 credit classes? Getting 37 credits before even arriving seems too good to be true.

why on earth would you want to leave chapel hill early?

My son also had a lot of AP credit. He has decided to stay the four years and double major and minor. The issue that my son has found is that becauase of the AP credit, he has completed a good amount of the core requirements, but cannot get into a alot of his major classes because of his freshman status. (You are considered a freshman no matter how many AP credits you came in with.) He has been somewhat successful in emailing professors and begging his way into some classes. He was also told that law schools may frown upon a student who graduated in three years. This is totally unsubstantiated and I have no idea if it is true or not.

Same issue with my “D” - she had 32 credits from AP’s, but didn’t know all AP results until after CTOPS. She just signed up for things that were not AP credit related. She had no trouble finding a “workable” schedule. She ended up taking Sociology 101 that she really didn’t need, but she enjoyed it.

She plans on a double major and language minor - should get done in 4 years. same as previous poster. The “Freshman” status is as said - not based on your incoming credits. So your priority for higher level classes is low.

It’s true for med school.
