CU Boulder

How's the academic quality at CU Boulder? I'm considering it as a safety, and wanted to know if I could get a good education there.

Any thoughts, opinons, or advice concerning the school?

Decent, but the out of state tuition is very high.

I live in Colorado and it has an excellent reputation in the state -- nice campus with the mountains close by.

Before assuming it is a safety, take a look at the requirements -- they can be a little stiff. I was surprised that they ask for 3 years of a single foreign language for the in-state guaranteed admissions.

Thanks. How does it compare to UDenver?

I think that U of Denver has a better reputation outside of Colorado -- but most people I meet here in Colorado consider it to be definitely second rate. The top colleges in Colorado are CU-Boulder and Colorado College.

Very strong engineering and physics programs. I don't know anything about programs outside of those.

If you are going to go to college in Colorado, Colorado College needs to be given some consideration.

world changer -- are you an instate student in Colorado? If not -- why are you thinking of UC - Boulder as a safety? Not that it isn't a great school, just not the best choice as a safety school (usually your own instate flagship university is the best bet). The reason it doesn't make the best safety school is finances -- like any state school, it is expensive for out-of-state students and stingy with money for OOS.

If money isn't an issue and you decide on UC -- Boulder as a safety, apply early enough for admittance to the honors college and other special programs. they can really make the experience world class.

If you are interested in attending college in Colorado (and it is great here!) have you looked at Colorado College? www.coloradocollege.edu It is a top 25 LAC and very nice (we live next door).
