I am a high school senior living in Colorado. So far I have applied to CSU and CU Boulder. I am not sure if I still want to apply to the few out of state schools on my list (Bradley University, U of Vermont and U of Puget Sound). I know I am capable of getting accepted by out of state schools, but I'm not so sure if I want to go out of state anymore. I like living in Colorado and I think I would be happy attending CSU or CU. Also financially going to a school out of state is a bit expensive unless I receive very good financial aid. Likewise, I feel pressure to apply to more than just 2 schools. So any thoughts?

In reading your post, it appears (at least to me) that you’ve already answered your own question. With this said, if you apply only to CSU and CU Boulder, are they both true safety schools (i.e., 97+ percent probability of admission, entirely affordable, and institutions you would like to attend that have the curriculum you want to study)?

OOS public schools USUALLY are more expensive than in-state publics because states use their money to support their own students. That may not be true of UVT, or Pitt, for instance. Both offer merit to OOS students with the qualifications. The SUNY publics are also not terribly expensive. ASU, South Carolina, and Alabama are recruiting OOS students with good merit for the qualified.

Gee, @sarah222, it (#1) is plain, clear, English; to reiterate:
a) In your initial post, you’ve essentially indicated that you’d be very happy with CSU and/or CU Boulder, which is fine.
b) However, if you were to apply only to these two universities, you would need to ensure that the three “safety school” conditions I delineated apply to both Colorado universities.
