Hello, I’m really curious to know more and have some insight on what the culture is like among the students in Haas. I know it’s a very competitive program but I would imagine networking and building relationships is just as important. How are these two sides reconcilied or am i looking at it wrong? What type of companies come to off internships? I have seen that there is also some sort of an assistance program for students wanting to get their CPA. What is that like? I also saw that there is an option to take classes in other fields to augment a business degree and even maybe double majoring, are these options available for transfers?
Yes senior transfer here, double majoring in business and social welfare. Lots of people double major or pursue minors - it’s not hard as long as you have all of the basic stuff like breadths done by the time you get here. Some people graduate early, tho keep in mind you won’t be able to take a lot of electives.
Most companies recruit from Haas, tho some will only take a few students. Most people recruit for the ABC’s , accounting, consulting, and banking, with a good number pursuing something tech related. It can be challenging trying to find a great internship or job without prior experience, so I would recommend building some relevant experience while at cc.
The culture piece is subjective, but it’s known to be cut throat and Haas students are known on campus as major Snakes. Most of this can be attributed to the continuing students in my opinion, particularly the people in business frats. It also mainly stems from the classes being curved so everyone is your competitor in the classroom, since gpa can impact your prospects for internships everyone is your competitor in that realm as well. There has been lots of cheating in recent years, again largely due to the curve. If you’re a transfer and you do the summer program called pre-core then you’ll make a solid network of friends about 60 people deep. These will by far be your strongest connections on campus since you don’t compete in the summer and instead get to know each other as you all prepare for the upcoming two years.
Thant you MikeSauce. Also to the clear your a transfer and you were also allowed to double major. What if any would be the limitations to double majoring and a transfer for example double majoring in business and engineer to something in a STEM field?
Lots of people do business and CS, its totally doable as long as you plan your schedule, being a double major also gives you an additional semester at Berkeley, meaning you can stay for 5 semesters instead of the normal 4.
