I am new to college confidential and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what my chances are of getting into a college preparatory school in Indiana. Here goes nothing. I am currently in 7th grade. Last year, I got 4.0's all year. I was singled out and given an award by the town for this accomplishment. I am in accelerated classes, and was given the opportunity to take the EXPLORE for a program called NUMATS. I excelled on this test and this year will take the SAT and/or ACT for the same program. They offered classes for high school credit, but I couldn't afford it. Anyway, I play soccer and am very good if I say so myself. I am also good at writing and have been promised a spot on the school newspaper. Drama is interesting to me, so I have been in multiple plays. I am also in an advanced band and am very good at the clarinet, bass clarinet, and saxophone. I do not know when or where I will be able to take the SSAT, but I hope to maybe next year. This year, 7th grade, I received 1 A- in math, but am currently working on fixing that. My teachers all love me, so I am sure that I can get a letter of recommendation if needed. Please remember, this is not to brag about academic success, this is to see if I have what it takes to get into and flourish at Culver Girls Academy. Please, somebody respond soon! I am so nervous. I want to get into Ivy League and I feel that this will help my chances. Besides, it's either Culver or public school, so I'm rooting for Culver. HELP!!!

The Duchossois and Batten Scholarships are very competitive. Academically, athletically, and musically, you are right on target. Don’t stress about an A-. A leadership role and community service would be a good things to add to your bio. These are very important to Culver. The students play a large part in directing the student body through their leadership. It is NOT just a buzz word that they use. Also, many aspects of Culver focus on service. Every senior is required to create a senior service project. The spring break mission trip is a staple.

Sign up for an open house in early fall and take the SSAT. You will want to shadow and need an interview. The admissions department is wonderful. It will be more like a chat about yourself. Remember, there are many applicants who want to be there. Culver isn’t just the means to an Ivy. To go there, is its own priceless experience. Good luck! I’m sure whatever happens, you will succeed.

I’m afraid I don’t have any helpful answer for you, but instead a question. My son also just took this EXPLORE test and we got results and I glanced at them and then didn’t think much of it. All the letter said was it would be used to determine his high school class placement should be stay in his local public school. But I have no idea what this test is and what his results mean. Does anyone else know? It’s interesting to hear that other schools are using it, too.

My son is also applying to Culver this year, but his stats aren’t quite as good as yours, lol. We’re reaching a bit, I suppose but it’s such a great place. You picked a good one and I think you’re going to have a great chance at getting in. Especially being so on top of everything good and early.

Thank you so much for your help. I actually have a shot at getting the Duchossois Scholarship thanks to what you said. My interview is next month and I took my SSAT’s. I think I did pretty well, and I am excited about visiting the campus. Thanks again!

Well, the EXPLORE is generally and 8th grade thing. It will be used for placement and that is all. There was just this program where you could take it in 6th grade and compare your scores to the nation’s 8th graders. Good luck to your son! I hope he gets in!

Culver is not that hard to get into… I mean I got in. It acceptance rate is high and not too many people apply. However, it depends on your financial situation. If you can pay I can ALMOST guarantee you will get in. If you want the scholarship it may be much harder since only 4 people get it. I got in last year but without the scholarship so I did not go. I think you will get in. Good Luck. Trust me you have a great chance…

Are you applying this year or for 2015-16

I am applying for 2015-2016.

wow, you are interviewing early

Just got my Culver acceptance letter last week! Good luck to all applying for the 2014 school year!!!
