@ElizaP10@dijkvan : CUNY is notoriously dysfunctional. I’m having problems with Queens College right now. They messed up my Transfer Advisement Session registration (or at least they seem to have). I also can’t log into my qmail at https://login.microsoftonline.com …they claim that my qmail is automatically created after my cunyfirst account is ‘claimed’ - my cunyfirst account was created years ago, not sure what it means to ‘claim’ it.
Can’t register for any classes as of right now. Hopefully I figure out how to sort this out. Let us know if your issues with Baruch get sorted.
A word of advice to all CUNY transfers: be patient and wait for instructions from the schools. Being admitted does not equal enrollment, every school has a process for the thousands of newly admitted students: transcript evaluation, placement testing/waivers, advisement, orientation, etc. Transfers are like freshmen, they usually get the last shot at class registration - it may seem unfair but it is what it is. When I transferred to Baruch, I wasn’t allowed to register for classes until January and I still got into all the classes I needed.
Your emails and computer network logins will be activated during orientation if you are not able to do it on your own (each school’s site has instructions on how to get your user ID and temporary password). Your CUNYFIRST accounts will update as the schools update your files. Just be patient. These schools are processing thousands of students at once, they cannot give every single one individualized attention. It’s not an instant process and each has its own system and protocols, so just sit tight and relax. It’s only November. Spring semester does not start for another 2 1/2 months.
I noticed that I can now add classes to my planner, and attempt to put classes in my shopping cart. Whereas before it said "You do not have access to enrollment at this time. " and I couldn’t even attempt to add them to my planner or shopping cart.
However, when I go to “Proceed to Step 2 of 3” I get "You do not have a valid enrollment appointment at this time. "
Well, I was able to enroll myself in classes today. So it seems it only took a day for more things-behind-the-surface to process.
CAMS still doesn’t work though. But all in all, pretty much everything involving being a Queens College student is now set for me.
Anyone reading this should try seeing for themselves if they can enroll in classes. Note: I was able to enroll in classes eight days after Queens College admitted me, or one day after CUNYfirst changed to display Queens College in the banner.
I had my Transfer Advisement Orientation today and met with an advisor right after it. Went well, he was actually a nice guy (unlike most CUNY staff). Told me some interesting things regarding choosing classes. Apparently late November is a decent time to check classes because that’s when “Closed” classes can become Open due to students having to drop because of issues with financial aid and the like.
Everything is set. I’ll be making a thread in the near future called “Convenient Guide to Transferring to CUNY”
Queens College’s CAMS isn’t set up for me yet but that’s because I just have to wait a bit more (it takes time for students to get processed into the system).
I got accepted at Hunter a couple weeks ago and I still haven’t been assigned an advisor. My financial aid hasn’t been finalized. My transfer credit evaluation still hasn’t been done. I can’t register for any classes.
I was able to activate my Queens College CAMS account today. It seems that CAMS activates 14 days (2 weeks) after CUNYfirst says you’ve been admitted to Queens College. It may work similarly in other CUNY systems.
Last thing I need to sort out is going to the Financial Aid office to give them proof of citizenship in order to obtain my financial aid.
Friend of mine who is transferring to Baruch is looking to call Baruch today to ask why he hasn’t been admitted yet. I’ll update this thread on what his process was like later.
