CUNY City College or SUNY Stony Brook University for EE?

I was accepted to both City College’s Grove School of Engineering and Stony Brook for Electrical Engineering. My questions are: which school would be better for my major? Which would give me more opportunities for jobs/research/internships etc.? Can anyone give me some insight on both of these schools’ electrical engineering programs?

I would go with Stony Brook unless it is unaffordable.

IMHO, both schools are equally match as it relates to jobs/research/internships. I don’t know much about Stony Brook as far as their EE department is concern, so I will leave that to others offer their feedback.

Did you visit both schools? Will you live on campus or commute if you attend SBU or CCNY? Can you provide the net cost to you for each institution? How many years will it take you to complete your EE degree at either school (I know you are a transfer student)? Are you a URM?

I think you should get recruiting data from the Career Placement Office of each school to get a sense of the number and type of companies that recruit Engineers from each school and which companies their graduates accept offers from.

I would be commuting to Stony Brook which would be a lot cheaper. CCNY I would most likely dorm or live in off-campus housing/an apartment which would be a bit more expensive, but at the same time I feel like it would be worth it.

I’ve visited both schools and liked them equally, and each would take me 2 years to get my BE degree. However, I’ve heard mixed feedback about how one school is much better than the other and vice versa. I will look into the recruiting data–thank you!

I’d go to Stony Brook – the school has a strong reputation in engineering and the sciences.

In a choice between Stony Brook and CCNY, Stony Brook is a much better school. City College has many problems in the STEM departments since their STEM departments are very unorganized and dysfunctional. Most students in the STEM departments at CCNY are unprepared for college level work in STEM areas and they are unwilling to study for their courses. In general Stony Brook is a much better school than CCNY. For instance, CCNY has a meager 7% four year graduation rate while Stony Brook has a 43% four year graduation rate (Source: College Board). The 7% graduation rate at CCNY is despite the fact that CCNY has a severe grade inflation problem. I personally have to give people good grades for very poor work since otherwise only one or two students will be happy with their grades.

@suptree1776 Do you know what’s needed for grove at ccny?
