CUNY Hunter for Out of Staters?? Help!!

I have 3 questions

1.) I heard that it was harder to get into Hunter College if your an out of state student because the main focus of that school is to serve NY residents and give them a means to affordable education.
Is that true? What you think about that?

2.) Also, the colleges average gpa is super low at around 2.7 - 3.0 YET they still have a 27% acceptance rate. I don't understand that ????

3.) I am going to apply for this schools nursing program. I hard that it's super hard to get into. But then again average GPA is 3.0 ...?? :/
My stats-
GPA 3.4 weighted
SAT 1550 :( (I retook them in Oct and I think I improved greatly though..currently waiting for scores)
I have a lot of EC's but I heard that they don't even take those into consideration at Hunter.... I heard that they don't take letters of recommendations into consideration there either. They just accept people based on scores. :(

Did you also hear that??? Let me know if it was just a rumor...

THANKS VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP IN ADVANCE!

Data is available from the Common Data Set which most schools publish. Theirs is here, sorry for the really ugly link:

The CDS does state that they do not consider EC’s. That is sometimes the case in public schools where they base decisions mostly on stats.

Nursing programs are hard to get into because they can only educate a relatively small number of students at one time. Hunter says they admit 100 per year, that is why it is more competitive than just getting admitted to the college in general. See more here:

There is nursing majors forum here on CC, you may want to post questions there.

Thank you very much @beantowngirl Anyone know someone attending hunters nursing program?
