I am an out of state resident looking to apply to CUNY schools for next fall. I heard that many applicants get into CUNY City College and Hunter College with SAT scores ranging from 1300 all the way to 2400! A vast majority of accepted freshmen have scores of around 1400 to 1800. This makes me wonder why they have an acceptance rate of around 30%. They seem so selective even though the people that get accepted have a less "selective" range of SAT scores and GPAs.
I have a pretty strong SAT score based on the school's standards, but my GPA is dismal. That's what worries me the most. I had severe personal issues over junior year and I know that it's not a valid excuse, but I just have to learn to live with it and make the best out of my situation. Thankfully, I've learned to overcome my issues and I intend on being the best academic person I can be from now on.

Here are my stats:

Average GPA (9th, 10th, and 11th grade) - 3.4, or 86.7%.
As I mentioned before, junior year really brought me down. I had a 3.1 GPA for that year. The classes I scored very poorly in are physics, trigonometry, and pre calculus.

I received a 94% freshman year and an 85% sophomore year. I took AP US History in sophomore year so my GPA has been scaled accordingly for that.

I received a 1690 on my SATs.

I'm also taking rigorous classes for my senior year. I have AP US Government and Politics, Honors Sociology/Psychology, and AP English.

Extracurricular:
-Violin (Youth orchestra since 9th grade, multiple performances including a performance at Carnegie Hall hosted by a local music teacher's association)
-President of Diversity Club in high school since 10th grade
-Member of school tennis since 10th grade
-Co-Editor of the school newspaper since 11th
-Key Club member since 11th
-Volunteering at my local hospital & job shadowing

So what's a realistic expectation for when I apply to CUNY City College and Hunter College?
I plan on applying as undecided and I'm out of state, plus my parents can pay tuition in full so that might help my chances. Sorry, but it's true!
