I'm sure I'm not the only person out there with this situation, but my parents are heavily pushing Macaulay Honors College (with good reason--free tuition, etc.) and if I get into the Honors College they have agreed to pay for any study abroad options and any graduate school I choose.

So my question is this: which CUNYs are the strongest over all, and which ones have the strongest language/ political science (concentration in international relations) or International Studies major?

From my research they've earned a bad rep from sides--I come from a very academically rigorous school and am not sure if there will be a significant drop in difficulty or if my achievement over classmates will be significant--can someone dispel that for me?

Hunter probably has the strongest language/political science major, followed by Queens College.
Also, don’t come to Macaulay thinking that you’ll be the cream of the crop because you went to a very academically rigorous school - we all did. Every student in my Macaulay seminar is extremely intelligent and you really have to work hard for your achievement over classmates to be significant. Don’t even come into a CUNY thinking that you’ll be better then everyone else- CUNY’s do have some extremely intelligent students who for whatever reason (finances, etc) attend CUNY’s when they can easily make higher ranked institutions.

Also about your parents paying for study abroad - Macaulay gives you an opportunities fund of over $7,000 to use to study abroad.

Sorry, didn’t mean for that to come off so arrogant! I guess I was just tired and nervous last night after doing a CC college match and checking out CCNY’s stats and was unsure what to think… I definitely understand I will not be the cream of the crop (I’ve met a few Macaulays kids at open houses and know a few also applying) I was more worried about the entire student body as a whole on campus, but I’ve had that cleared up. I spoke with my Guidance Counselor today and she gave me the Macaulay stats for each school and recommended the same colleges you did for my interests so I feel a lot better with my decision now!

I know that Macaulay also gives an opportunities fund, I just meant that if I wanted to stay for an extended amount of time abroad in a farther location they would be more willing to pay if I went to Macaulay

Also, just curious, what are considered to be the stronger subject areas of each of the colleges? I know CCNY has a great engineering program, Hunter has a competitive nursing… anything else?
