Hi all! So, I currently attend BMCC (CUNY) and am majoring in Early Childhood Education. It was never my intetion to graduate,I just wanted to get my GPA up so I could attend a 4-yr college as I did not do well my first time around. Anyway, i ended up taking the majority of Early childhood classes in BMCC but still applied to transfer with the intention of leaving BMCC in the Spring. Basically my first choice is Hunter and my GPA is currently 3.52, however I did not pass remedial algebra (retaking in Summer however). What my question is, does Hunter expect transfer students to have completed their Math requirement before entering? My friend recently got accepted after failing a Math course, however I don’t know if it differs based on Major. Additionally, I was wondering if Hunter requires you to graduate before entering as a CUNY trasnfer. My second choice is City and my final choice is College of Staten Island. Thanks in advance!
You don’t need your full associates in order to transfer into any of those colleges. You also don’t necessarily need to have completed your math requirement before you transfer. But you do need to be ready to take college level math in order to apply to their bachelors degree programs and to be considered, so you do need to pass developmental algebra.
Since you really need to pass this math class, think about what you might do differently to ensure you pass it this summer. If you haven’t done any of this, try it this time and see if it helps: meet with the professor, go to the math tutoring center 2-3 times per week (since it’s an accelerated summer class, you need to go there a LOT), and if you feel it would help, study with other students in your class, so you all can ask questions and encourage each other.
