I've been accepted to Duquesne already and I'm really excited to go. Me and some of my future roommates have been talking and we definitely want to go to a Pirates game when we are there on like a Friday or Saturday. I'm just worried about the curfew especially because we are freshman. What time can we stay out until?

Hi -
I googled and see that RAs have curfews, but I couldn’t find anything about student curfews. Why do you think there are curfews? My son is deciding whether or not to attend, and this might tilt the balance. Thanks.

I remember reading somewhere that there are different times that people have to be in by or turn the music off I.e. quiet times, but I’m not sure about like leaving/returning to campus. Especially because I will only be a freshman and not know a lot about the area, but I would really like to be able to get out on the weekends and go see the city. I’m friends with the orientation on FB so I might just shoot them a message.

My son is at Duquesne and lived in the dorms his first two years. As far as I know, there is no curfew as to when students need to be in. There are restrictions on when guests can visit. The website says:

Guests may be present in the Living Learning Centers as follows:
•Freshmen: Sunday to Thursday: noon to midnight; Friday and Saturday noon to 2 a.m.
•Upperclassman: Sunday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 a.m.
There are some exceptions for overnight guests of the same sex.

Hope this helps. I would also be happy to answer any other questions you may have. Duquesne has been a wonderful experience for my son. Good luck!

Hi - I should know in the next couple of days if my son decides on Duquesne or his other final choice, but I think he’s leaning toward Duquesne. I’d love to know more about your son’s experience. I see that you don’t have enough posts yet to PM, so if you don’t mind just telling me more right in this forum, I’d love to hear! Thanks!

Hi all! Just came upon this thread and you’ve encouraged us to look at Duquesne with my junior son. Could you kindly share what sparked your interest in the school and what you like about it? Financials are very important…would you say “generous”?
What would be the best way to get there from NJ…train, plain or automobile??
Would a summer visit be a good idear or wait for Fall Open House? Thank you for your feedback!!

Hi -
Definitely try to see Duquesne while school is in session, and preferably not during the winter months. Same advice goes for all schools you take your son to see. Having done the full range of visits to dozens of schools in all seasons with both my kids, I can firmly say that you will get a much more accurate sense of the school while students are there.

My son exceeded all the top ranges for Duquesne’s GPA and SAT scores, was accepted into the Honors program and received a generous scholarship that covers about 60% of tuition.

If you go, consider staying at the JW Marriott – it’s about 3 minutes away from the school. Good luck!

justwonderful, Thanks for your reply and that is incredible news about your son and his schlorships! Did he in fact decide to go? What is he planning to study? Congrats!!

Hi tpcrd - he is going to Duquesne, and is very excited. He will be studying Intl Relations, Political Science or History. Go dukes!
