Alright do the extra currics, application, and teacher recs really hold the utmost importance in the admissions process cause Im thinkin id be screwed if so. On collegeboard it says they are considered very important to the admissions process but i got pretty good stats too. I applied RD and any advice would be appreciated on the chances at brown

SAT I ive took 3 times.

Best Composite SAT is 1390 (760Math, 630Verbal) (tho i got 1180 and 1270 total both times my junior year which pretty much makes me wanna throw rocks at my head cause i was pretty much the most apathetic person in the world at that time…got 1390 tho without studying and managing my time much better when i retook my senior yr)
GPA is currently 3.79 or something like that (i averaged a b tho my junior yr so it brought my GPA down a ****load)
SATII Math 1 680, Math 2 590 (i have no idea what happened), Writing 580 and 660, Physics 730, US History 710

If stats are things that dont necessarily make you stand out (in this case they dont, at least at the other posts I saw) then what does?

And does Brown take into account a declining trend in GPA? Cause my gpas been declining every year except this yr when i actually bust my ass when it seems to count the least.

last question ,sorry, I promise, how important is the midyear report cause my gpa senior year is insanely higher than my gpa junior yr (from 3.2something to 4.2something on a 4.33 scale UW…B to a rounded up A+)

BTWi gotta clarify, some inconsistency…previous post i said 1180, 1230, 1390 but now i said 1180, 1270, 1390, its really 1270 tho…i have no idea why i typed 1230 but i hate the idea of potential lying, to complete strangers (1230 wasnt an intentional lie, honest mistake)

Well we all know that one of the main reasons Brown rocks like woah is because they look more at PEOPLE than just numbers--aka TEST SCORES. I mean none of us know what really goes on when they're deciding who to admit, but I think Brown is the most considerate of personal qualities (like ECs, recs, etc) out of all the super selective schools. Soooo...they matter a lot. :D

I was thinking along the same lines, none of us really know what the hell's going on and I'm glad someone finally acknowledged it. If you check the stats, their average SAT scores for freshmen aren't intimidating anyway.

My ec's were fine, but they weren't as spectacular as those of many CC posters. I think you have a great shot, especially since Brown really considers your personality as a whole.

My EC's, in reality, are pretty extensive and tend to dominate my life. On my application though, they looked pretty sparse since I only mentioned 4 of them.

JJkell, you are going to need a strong hook (athletics, AMAZING EC like you started a software company or something) in order to get in. The problem is that stats, while by far not everything, are important. Without a hook like that I would say no go.

Brown rocks, but I am concerned that they reject people like me with high scores etc. to get a mystique and since they know I would go to HYP anyway if I got in to the latter.

I won't be applying until the fall. I do well on standardized tests, so I'm hopeful. They don't use the PSAT. So by high scores I'm speculating. Shouldn't count my chickns yet.....

Did well on PSAT. I think it makes sense to go ea/ed to an Ivy, Duke, Stanfrd or top lac, provided I'm fairly sure where i fit in. but it's too early to say really. I don't have any hooks oe major ECs and don't really want to do sports. Really, I'm not the type of person they look for at Ivies and top LACs probably, so I'll be visiting some good "safeties".
